  How It works

Wellness/Preventive Care

North Star Health (NSH) monitors compliance of plan members and their doctors to nationally recognized guidelines for prevention and care from sources such as the American Medical Association, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association. North Star Health uses a proprietary system called HITS (Health Information Tracking System) to track compliance by member and doctor.

We proactively share this information, wellness disease record, with our members and their physicians to encourage improved long term member health. As a result we have experienced much lower health care inflation costs compared with national averages.

North Star Health’s objectives are to mitigate the impact of “small area variation” that exists within our clients’ health plans. Simply put, North Star Health is in business to improve the quality of healthcare. At North Star Health, there is a continuous health plan improvement process we call “The North Star Health System” .

All health plan data analysis is performed by our on-site staff of physicians and Ph.D. Biostatisticians. Data analysis is conducted at the client level and focuses on identifying the underlying risk factors driving health plan costs.

Preventive Screening Tool

It's important for you to make preventive visits to your doctor. You likely take better car of your car than yourself. Preventative maintenance and regular health screening can often catch problems early before they become more difficult problems.

Please use the NSH Preventive Screening Tool below to determine what tests are appropriate for you based on your age and sex.

RISK FACTORS:

North Star Health identifies and treats risk factors within the entire member and family population. This identification is a key component of preventing disease. The following table and list of sample risk factors are tracked in the HITS system and the member wellness disease record.
